A Windstorm Policy provides coverage for direct loss caused by Hurricane, or Windstorm (tornado) and/or Hail, to an insured property. Hurricane Season can be both devastating and costly. If your home or business is located within the 14 First Tier Counties along the Texas Gulf Coast, your Homeowner or Business Policy will most likely exclude Windstorm Coverage. A Windstorm Policy will need to be placed in order to cover losses resulting from excessive wind and/or hail. The 14 First Tier Counties as indicated in Section 2210.003(3) of the Texas Insurance Code are Aransas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Willacy or in one of the cities east of State Highway 146 in Harris County (La Porte, Morgan’s Point, Pasadena, Seabrook, Shoreacres).
Hurricane season officially begins in Texas on June 1 and runs through the end of November, with peak months in August and September. Although residents of coastal areas are most at risk, tropical storm systems can travel hundreds of miles inland, creating the potential for wind damage and flash flooding throughout the state. Planning ahead can help you protect yourself, your family, and your property during hurricane season.
